Over the easter break i have been watching Crossing Jordan.
The show stars Jill Hennesey as Jordan Cavanaugh. A young female detective working with a group of forensic scientists to find the truth and to catch the criminal.
As you can tell the show uses a female lead role to act as some sort of selling point, to make people think that females are powerful and not the typical cliche.
The show uses a running gimmick within the first season. Using the imagination of two characters (Jordan and Max aka her father) to try and figure out how the crime happend and who did this, how they did this etc...
Which shows that despite Jordan having to run a group of forensic scientists she keeps a tight bond with her family, we also see that her father must of had an infulence in becoming this strong female leader.
All in all in my opinon the show is very interesting with its mixup of csi with its forensic science and a mixup of any other crime drama with a female lead but this will not be recommed for all audiances. As they show is techinical and thereby will not favour towards the all guns blazzing fans.

Law and order
UK version of the long-running U.S. TV drama. Relevantly new british crime drama that follows the same format of the american version. Law and order tells the stories of two separate yet equally important groupsthe police, who investigate crime and (the group which are not comman to have main title roles in tv crime dramas) the attorneys, who prosecute the offenders. This show is similar to that of the ITV drama the jury. Helping the public gain a better knowladge and understanding of the behind the scene typical proffesionals. The show contains many lead characters( for example Bradley walsh as ronnie brooks to Harriet walter as Natalie chandler. ) And for those who like constant starsky and hutch like gun blazing you might want to turn away, this shows tempo is slow and ingages the brain more, you have been warned.

What i watched thursday. Sorry for late entry i saved it as a draft by mistake
I was excited waiting to watch a tv crime drama great. A show that was so good it almost had its own spinoff and a movie starring owen wilson and ben stiller. Yes, i am talking about the slick detective buddy crime drama that is starsky and hutch.
Two detectives(starksy=Paul Glaser and David soul as Huthc) investigate a double homicide they later discover that the man and women who died were mistakenly murdered - it was the detectives themselves who were the intended targets! This starting scene depicts that this is a fast paced crime drama, containing a open narrative. We know who commited these murders yet are detecetives dont have a clue, which worries them. Despite acting as tuff, cool, slick, careless they are awful at solving there own enigmas, the audiance need to find out the who did this or that themslefs as we watch these dimbwitted detectives struggle.

Luther as the anti hero
Luther is a perfect anti hero. He is bad yet always shines through in the end. Examples of how he is an anti hero include:
.He makes references to the devil and 666( mainly in the second episode ) for example hw he refers the medias number as 666.
. Despite seeming to not care about others, he cares for his one love, zoe.
. Always seems glun and depressing. Never in any form of mood except negative.
. Always throwning.
. Has care for right and wrong, yet let a criminal fall to what is beleved his death
. Cares for alice despite being a murdere.
. Very agrressive even with the ones he loves.

What i watched on sunday (Grimm)
Based on tails from popular story writiers the Grimm brothers, Grimm is a crime drama with (like its subheading) does not include your usuals subjects. David Giuntoli stars as nick. Are police detective with the ablity to see the supernatural.
Based in portland america. Nick along with his police crew must sought out the supernatural problems in the world.
This is not the only time the grimm brothers have been brought into the media limelight. They have also had a movie based on their tales of wonder and amazement. There tales feature remade classics changed and mixed up to potray an darker side to the typical lovey dovie hero comeing to the rescue like fantasy. With dark themes and low key lighting at times we see a whole new look on the drama. Turning happiness into a murder mystery fantasy... more generes then one.

Narrative
Opening teasers i have seen include Luther. For example the second epsisode we see two police members murdered before we cut to the actually show and title scene. Not only luther but shows like CSI show there death or scenes of major crime before we get developed into the show. These are used to keep the audiance ingaged and interested in what will happen next.
Examples of egnigmas include sherlock. Sherlock tends to want to play along with the killer. Find out this and that and is able to put his body obn the line to get the answer to his ever growing engima. E.G. in the first episode of luther we see that he is willing to play the taxi drivers games in order to find out what he wants( sadly he cannot find an answer as he dies due to being shot by watson, who is worried about sherocks lust for enimgas constantly.)
The quests of the key protagonists is simple. Their quests always lead to answers. Which is what they want(and to also bring the criminal to justice.) Sometimes they are ast tempo chase races whilst others for example luther are slow paced. These quests gain many tips and help along the way from various chase scenes, undercover work, forensic evdence gaining etc..
Mnay shows use open and close narratives. The ones with higher social grades(ABC1) tend to watch the shows with a closed narrrative so they can work it out for themselfs and be one step ahead of the characters. These shows include csi. We gain knowladge bit by bit but are red herrings leave us on multiple journeys which these people like to enjoy.
Shows that use open narratives are the ones who are watched by the lets say not so smart people(c2de)These shows do all the work for us. Like luther for example 14 mintes in a realise whos doen the crime, we just wait for him to get caught.

Setting
The setting of luter is middle class london. hat do we expect inmiddle class london?:
. Council estates
. Gritty streets
. Dark setting so on so on
Thats what we expect to be seeing.
London is a good place for this to be filmed. The crimes are gritty and so is the area.Luther is dark and menacing and so are the girtty streets of london. Day or night. This show would not work in somewhere like for example where csi is filmed for many reasons, including:
.Csi is set in another country
.Set in a holiday destination, a sunny area which does not in any way conotate sadness or depression
.The crimes in csi are usually abot gang violence which we do not tend to see in the uk, rarely. etc....
Many oppotunties arise from this setting. For example you could film a murder scene down an alleyway because alleways are dark, you are usually alone and the occasional rape and death do happen then. It will be more realistic and people could relate to the fear that the character is experiancing because i mean who hasent had to walk down a dark alleyway alone and not been frightend?
Busy chase scenes could be filmed in the busy streets of london, leading to many twists and turns.

What i watched on Monday( Unforgettable Pilot )
Poppy Montgomery. A young, smart redhead who stars as strong female lead detectvie carrie well who we will never forget. Starting as a nice civillain later turns out to be a cunning woman who( as we see ) has the memory of an elephant... an elephant never forgets anything. A crime drama foucusing on her lust for a man, good doing and her amazing memory. She must solve the wrong doings along with fellow police force in gritty new york city. We get mixed views as we see her, at first innocnet and the next cunning, she plays a very mysterious woman with a motvie for justice( after her sister died she wanted to become a cop ) By joining the police force she trys to remember the one thing she cant. Who murdered her sister?
Poppy seems to not have starred in anything as major or played someone as controlling and as of an important role into she joined the cast of this show. Set in gritty new york the cameras pan from side to side exposing the citys dark side, showing its not all glitz and glam. The views help us see through her eyes at times which makes the audiance feel involved and make us feel like we are there with her( obviously we dont want to all be at a crime scene.)
The drama is smart, clever. Not for the people who prefer all guns blazing madness scenes. This show is more like if csi dident have an horatio and did focus all on the foresncis. Not for the lower class aka not as intelligent tv audiances as we later see the show develop into a more logical and thought provocking look.

Set pieces
The laboratory(csi) Typical in some crime dramas rather than other e.g. csi it involves chemcial tubes and clases, lab coats, goggles, test tubes, photos, documents, laptops......... It plays a big part in csi due to the fact the loction of the headquaters are located here.
Interrigation scene= Tape, two chairs, two or 3 detectives, class of water, cornored of room( small ) one way mirrors including police and detectives in the background. Have pictures of the crime scene.
Eureka monemnt= camera would pan around the area which is( in some cases in shallow depth of focus/field.If this was the case then the the depth of field would instaintly change back. ) the room is usally in a police station around an occasionally full office full of desks with papers, pens, case files. The interrigation scene really helps us get to know a character more in depth and helps us revial their weaker side.
Inital crime investigation= Usually taken place with many detectives. Includes whitboards with pictures of victims or possible allies. Lots of officers and desks and reports and coffie etc..... This scene is important because we get to have an insight on how the police work.
The arrest/confession= Usally alot of cops near by or if its not a buddy cop show then it will just be the one dectective e.g. luther. Sometimes invovles a 'dash' moment. Usually alot of police cars occasionaly in the dark with the lights on. Occasionaly cordoned off areas. This scene is important to the end of the scene seeing as it raps up the story, case solved.
Crime flashback= A montage or flashback of important moments of the crime. These scenes will involve the typical stuff such as blood, knifes, guns, the victim in a pretty bad state or dead. Could be outside or inside. These are improtant because they add to are knowladge what happens whislt hiding it from the characters. Makeing us feel more invovled and smarter than the characters themselfs.
The 'dash'= Fast panning of camera sometimes done down alley ways or busy streets to hide the crimnal from everyone else to make the dash scene more intesne to find him or her involved in the chase. This scene adds a more adventours outlook on the show, keeping us ingaged.
The notification of kin( telling the of family memeber once you have died )= can be at the victims home. Never much going on usually a ordinary family enviroment, dark lighting with the occasional light around. This scene helps add more vairaty ( shock and confusion/ pull at the heartstrings. )
The autospy= Dead bodies, labcoats with sciencetists investigation, see through whiteboards with diagrams of dna etc... microscopes, scapels, laptops computers. This scene is much loved by csi fans. Helping us understand what actually happens in the world of forensic science.
Press conference= minor group of detectives, papers/pens, tap recorders, news reporters, family asking for help, grieivng familes. This scene( like the scene above ) helps us understand what he police force do behind possibly closed doors.

What I hae been watching
(Luther episode 2 season 1)In this episode luther likes to think he is somewhat of a devil in disguise due to the links with hell and the bad e.g. luther refers to his number as 666. Never seems to act in a somewhat posotive attiutude. Although this is true he Seems to wonder about death and the possiblity of leaving the world( in a negatie manner wondering if he is sernigifcant.) yet despite his negatiity does not give the impression of feeling down on his guard and seems to be alert 24/7( until he is angry and thereby cares only about what needs to be done not himself.) Zoey seems to be his one weakness(ex wife) The new anti protagionist( not alice ) has started to kill officers since he was almost arrested himself. Seems to be master of disguise.Formar moral mariene, we later see how he is mastered in guns due to learning this. Seems to be doing the killings for his dad in revenge for what the goverment has done. Got conficted for the wrong thing(named terry lynch) Luther later admits he is afraid of alice. Luther is not ashamed to get himself out there to maker poeple know he is right so after he speaks with his father he then decides to get himself heard over tv makeing him enemy number 1 whislt makeing his zooey feel in constant danger. leading to alice appearing in her house and asking countless questions. Leaving her shocked and confused. We start to see that he might have a deathwish as we see him venture alone into owens( enemy ) flat by his self. Revealing that his dad is not who he seems to be, revealing luthers softer side and we see him as a lower level to owen when the camra pans down on him. We start to see owen is turning well 'nuts' starting to play games with luther risking his own life to feel like his victim and to feel less like his dad. Ending with luther fighting him to the ground. This episode makes us think how longer can he last and how longer will it be before luther is as dereanged as owen.

What i watched on monday (CSI New York)
CSI New York( episode 21 seasons 3 )
Like any other CSI the show brings you straight into the action. In this episode we find one murdered woman and then suddenly a man, who is being hunted by who yet to be confirmed. It ( like CSI Miami ) leaves us gessing/ wondering what, why, who , how etc... Keeping to its restrictive narrative setting.....
The show still keeps its professionals. The detectives, paramedics, cops and so on....And are main professional today is Gary Sinise( star of the adaption of mice and men )who plays Detective Mac Taylor. He keeps to the stereotype of his cop. Always the hero, fights for justice yet still does not give of the impression that he is like horatio( detective from csi miami )He does not wear the glasses... implicating hes not so sly and does not hide his emotions behind his glasses, showing he could be more foward and more in touch with his feelings.
Onto the plot....
As we get into the drama we see a that the victim( woman ) has had her eyelids removed, clear cut( must of been done by someone who is effective with a knife ) we also find out she was part of a unique group of people who meet by unlocking a chain( some sought of match makeing place? ) We also find out are male victim is now in hospital with his dada confessing he did hang around with the 'wrong sought of people'and had to go to rehab for takeing drugs. But why is he hunted down? We will find out later.
The setting of the show is glamerous new york looking over the skyline everytime after the break. Giving us a lovely view of the city. Depicting that the areas not all as safe as you might of thought.
The show comes back to a previous villian now turned architect refered to as dobson.Who likes to tease are hero detective. Leading onto the fact he is careless and evil. It seems like he knows that are hero knows he is a murder suspect yet he still plays with him. Teases him. Seems to like the thrill of the chase.
The foresnic scientists discover are male victim has been posioned with some sought of pellet, which must of been shot from something to the impact of the posion. Which then they lead back to the suspect who reportidly had a fight with are victim, a russian cafe owner? Revealing that some evidence is from the carnival. Learning are male victim ( scott ) wants to sell the park leading to another bust up. Scotts brother jesse is brang into the occasion when he is mentioned to be the leader of the arcade, learning that despite being older is not head of the carnival and it run by his brother.
The case of the dead girl find lauren hennings murder matches the murder of the architect later on and believe that it is him. The parents of a victim called katy is being interigated, this scene is a tug of the heartstrings scene, leaading to her crying and us feeling sorry.
The audiance of this show have to be smart. Meaning that you would have to be of a social grade of ABC1.This is because the smarter people would like to learn out who did what by themselfs( a reason why the narrative is restrictive ) and also theres so much one person can catch up on... someone who prefers the action of dramas would not be able to keep up without the constant gun firing. Plus the terms are technoicall and the drama is slower pace than most. Leaving us to think. study. learn.
They later find a worker of a moving company. Whos seamen seems to match that of the seamen found on the blanket used to cover the body of the victim. Another red herring is deteced. A roller skater who is believed to be put up by jesse to shoot scott with the posion.
The weddington. The key to why mold and algi is located on are female victims body. The place where the blanket used to wrap her up was located. The place that has discovered a bloodied bed where they believe she was held.Until we see a girl called katy. Related to the murder investigation we discovered earlier. We also find out that are recurring character( the architect) is the killer. This then leads into a chace scene. The camras are constantly panning with the action until dobson is located on the roof. He then commits suicide. Or does he? Does he gets pushed? Watch to find out.

What i watched on Thursday(Inside Men)
BBC1 Thursday 2/2/2012
Inside Men
Today i watched Inside Men. A new TV crime drama/thriller from ENGLAND. The drama invovles a trio of workers working in a bank who have to face a difficult situation when a unite of armed robbers invade the bank, with the cash strapped trio uniting to solve this problem.
The drama is set in gritty, rural england based around a financial couting house( which is ironic seeing as they are all in need to find some cash, which then causes the inccident of money being stolen by two of the men chris and marcus.) The show starts with all guns blazing leaving the narrative as restricitive. We dont know who the people are, we dont know the setting BUT we get a look at are 3 characters. All in buisness dress, leaving us to think they are business men. But we later see that maybe there buisness dress is not there only connection as we see in a flashback to january that the 3 are situated in a problem when marcus( the muscle ) has been stealing money for the sake of it.
As we get more involved with the drama we see that the narrative has started of with an distruption before its resolution and eqiuilibrium. Leavving the narrative that leads your narrative into a spiral and leaving you thinking this thinking that. Yet the story later on is all set as a flashback. Helping us construct this restricitive narrative. But you cannot watch one episode to get fully involved, it will have to be watched in all its 4 parts every thursdays. Despite us getting an insight that they are not very trutworthy, unloyal, sneeky we see that they are more of anti heroes- we will get to love them yet they will betray justice to get what they want. It seems that the characters are symbiotic( meaning they work with eachover to safe the other ) but we see that maybe this isnt prehaps the situation we expected.
This show is nothing like sherlock or csi. It does not relie of brain or power alone to fight the crime, its a mixture of both.
